Implants
Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone or metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures. We are fortunate to live in an age when technology can help make dental care faster, better, and more painless than ever. In our office we utilize a number of high tech tools to help us take better care of your dental needs. Among these are intraoral video camera imaging, digital X-rays ( 90% less radiation than traditional X-rays!), laser cavity detection, and computerized patient education systems on just about any aspect of dental care you’re interested in. This allows us to let you be more involved in your diagnosis and treatment, to prevent many potential problems, and to treat any others in their early stages to minimize cost, discomfort and loss of tooth structure for our patients. We are constantly on the lookout for new cutting edge technologies to help us make your dental experience a positive one. If something better comes along from a technology standpoint, you can bet we’ll have it!

Intraoral Camera Video Imaging

interoral camera Ever wonder what the dentist sees when he or she looks in your mouth? Ever wonder if you’re getting the “straight scoop” on what he or she is telling you? Well, now you can see for yourself! With a small, handheld camera about the size of a ballpoint pen, we can let you see any structure in your mouth that we see. With the aid of fiber optic lighting, you’ll be able to see any concerns we have projected onto a monitor at 20x magnification. We can then answer any questions you might have and together agree on any treatment that might be indicated.

The intraoral camera also is a terrific diagnostic tool that allows us to see problems that might otherwise go undiscovered. Quite often a dental problem that’s difficult to pin down becomes obvious under the camera. If we can’t find it, we can’t fix it! Intraoral video imaging allows us to do that.

Digital X-rays

digital x-ray X-rays are an invaluable tool to assist us in seeing oral structures that are hidden to the naked eye – bone levels, root configurations, decay under fillings and between teeth, as well as pathologies of the teeth and jaws can all be seen on X-rays. Many patients, however, are concerned about the radiation inherent with X-rays. There is good news! Digital X-rays, where the image is captured on a computer sensor (as opposed to a conventional X-ray film) require 90% less radiation than conventional X-rays, so the patient’s exposure is much lower.

And that’s not all. The X-ray image appears on a computer monitor, so that the patient can view them, we can enlarge and enhance them to illustrate certain features, and they appear instantly! No more waiting for them to be developed, and then trying to read a 1″ by 2″ film. The benefit to you, the patient, is a faster and more accurate dental diagnosis.

Laser Cavity Detection

Diagnodent - Laser Cavity Detection Meet the Diagnodent, the state of the art in cavity detection! The Diagnodent is a small laser instrument that scans your teeth with a harmless laser light searching for hidden decay. Locating hidden decay before it destroys tooth structure (from the inside out) is a big problem in modern dentistry. The widespread use of fluoride supplements has made tooth surfaces harder and more resistant to decay, which is a good thing. However, diagnosing cavities is more challenging because the disease process can start through microscopic defects in the hard surface enamel and can readily spread into the softer tooth structure beneath the surface. Meanwhile, the external surface of the tooth still appears healthy. X-rays and probing with an instrument are simply unreliable in detecting subsurface decay, particularly when the cavity is in the early stages. Fortunately, the new Diagnodent is a major breakthrough that allows us to find cavities when they are small, saving time, money, discomfort and tooth structure for our patients.

This unique instrument provides instant feedback on the health of the tooth. A pen-like probe simply glides over the tooth surfaces, constantly checking the status of the tooth . A number scale and audible alarm signals the dentist when there are signs of hidden decay. This new technology is completely safe and painless.

Caesy Patient Education System

Caesy is a computerized collection of concise, detailed audio-visual programs on virtually any subject in dentistry you might be interested in. Whether you want to know about bleaching, implants, veneers and cosmetic dentistry, gum disease, prevention, treatment for snoring and sleep apnea, crown and bridge, TMJ, or just any other subject, chances are Caesy has a program that addresses it. The programs run 2 to 6 minutes long, and are very informative without being too detailed.

There are even programs for the kids dealing with subjects such as their first visit to the dentist, prevention of dental disease, nutrition (healthy snacks, etc.), and other topics. Children love it, and it gets them involved in their dental care in a fun way at an early age. Ask us about the Caesy system!
